Services - Collaboration

Organizations across the country-seeking alternative methods of delivering services in more cost efficient ways- are beginning to collaborate with others in the community or with their regional and/or national association. The goal is to find partners to share costs related to common infrastructure and ongoing operating expenses. Collaboration in operational areas such as data collection and analysis, fundraising, finance, administration, and marketing offer unique opportunities for organizations to work together and increase their capabilities.

Over the course of our work, Transformations Consulting Group (TCG) has developed six primary goals for creating any collaborative project:
  1. It must be both practical and compatible with each organization's mission and goals.
  2. It must provide measurable benefits to each participating organization.
  3. It must reduce overall future operating costs for each participating organization.
  4. It must reduce the overall capital costs for each participating organization.
  5. It must be a model for ongoing successful collaboration and position each participating organization for additional future collaborative efforts.
  6. It must set the stage for providing enhanced mission related services to each of the participating organization's market and service areas.

TCG's key factors to a successful collaboration:
  1. Establishing trust among all participating organizations.
  2. Creating frequent and regular opportunities for meaningful open discussions on design process with teams of knowledgeable staff focused on a successful implementation.
  3. Understanding the psychological effects of collaborative change and allowing necessary time for staffs to understand what the changes mean to them and to embrace the project.
  4. Sharing accountability among all participating organizations by setting clear expectations, agreed upon goals and outcomes, and providing ways to change individual behaviors.
  5. Establishing early benchmarks for success and a frequent reporting policy using data which affects goals and objectives.

Successful collaborative projects build upon a proven architecture and a proven process that enables change.
